Buddhist Recovery Meetings in North Fulton

Buddhist recovery is the practice of using meditation and the teachings of the Buddha as tools for staying free of addictive behavior. It does not ask you to adopt a religion. It asks you to look closely at what craving feels like in your own body and mind, and to practice responding to it differently.

The four truths, in plain language

Recovery Dharma is built on the Four Noble Truths. First, there is suffering, and anyone who has lived with addiction knows that intimately. Second, suffering has a cause, and in our experience that cause is craving. Third, suffering can end, because when craving loosens, so does the pain it creates. Fourth, there is a path that leads there, and that path is the Eightfold Path: wise understanding, intention, speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness and concentration.

In a meeting we do not debate these as philosophy. We use them as instructions. A guided meditation gives you somewhere to put your attention. A reading names a habit honestly. Sharing gives you a place to say out loud what you noticed, without being fixed, graded or preached at.

How it differs from a 12-step meeting

There is no required belief in a higher power and no steps to complete in order. Recovery Dharma is built around inquiry and meditation rather than a fixed sequence of written work, and it names the problem as craving rather than as powerlessness alone. Many people attend both. Nothing here replaces treatment, therapy, or another program that is working for you.
